Two-time Paralympian Lauren Barwick holds gold and silver medals in Equestrian from the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Summer Games. Two-time Paralympian Lauren Barwick holds gold and silver medals in Equestrian from the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Summer Games. Lauren began riding horses at the age of seven. She was training for a professional career as a stunt person with a specialization in horsemanship, when in June 2000, a bale of hay fell on her and broke her back.

After her injury, she did not think she would be able to ride horses again. However, she took up sailing as part of her rehabilitation and got inspired to ride again.

By 2001, she was competing on the national Para-equestrian team. Leading up to the Vancouver 2010 Games, Lauren lit the Langley, BC Olympic Torch and also carried the Paralympic Torch on its final leg to the stadium. Lauren has won are the 2004 George Jacobson Equine Canada award and the inaugural 2010 Equine Canada President`s Award.
